Boy Injured in Dingo Attack on K’gari Island; Rangers Search for Animal
A nine-year-old boy was bitten by a dingo on K’gari (formerly Fraser Island), a heritage-listed sand island and popular tourist destination off the central Queensland coast, on Friday morning.
The incident occurred around 11:47 AM at Yidney Rocks.
According to a Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson, the boy sustained a bite to his arm.
He was assisted by Marine Rescue Queensland and transported to Hervey Bay Hospital in stable condition.
The Department of Environment and Science (DES) reported that the dingo was stabbed by bystanders who intervened to protect the child.
Rangers are now actively searching for the injured animal and have increased patrols in the area.
Authorities have reminded visitors to K’gari to always supervise children closely and to carry a stick for safety while exploring the island.
